FAQ #11

What does a new member do at a meeting?

ANSWER.  A new member starts doing the simpler roles at first. Don't worry! We don't ask that you give a speech at the first meeting. A new member can start the first couple weeks presenting toasts, or operating the timing lights, or even answering a table topic. This allows him or her to become comfortable with the group. Once comfortable, he or she is encouraged to give their first speech - the "Ice Breaker" – in which they will introduce themselves to the group. New members are eased gently into the Toastmasters program. Remember - it's a self-directed program.
